POLICE OFFICER

The City of Monrovia is seeking exceptional individuals to serve as Police Officers (Recruit/Entry-Level). Newly hired Recruit/Entry-Level officers will receive pay and benefits while attending the police academy. Once graduated from the police academy, Recruit/Entry-Level officers will enter the field training program, where they will learn essential job duties including patrolling an assigned area during an assigned shift and looking for indicators of possible criminal activity, threats to life and property, conducting investigations, interviewing victims and contacting suspects, educating the community on crime prevention, and learning the community policing philosophies that have created a strong and enduring partnership with our citizens. 

As a Police Recruit, you are sponsored, and receive recruit pay which is $5,515.16-$7,390.84 monthly.  At the completion of the police academy, police officer pay is adjusted to police officer pay.

$6,729.54 – $9,018.23 monthly

The City offers a monthly cafeteria benefit of $1,450 / month for use towards enrolling in any of the City offered health, dental, and vision plans. Any employee who can furnish proof of coverage with another group plan can take 25% of the unused cafeteria benefit as deferred compensation or cash.

VACATION LEAVE
100 hours of annual vacation accrual, increasing up to 200 hours based on years of service
 
SICK LEAVE
Accrued at 8 hours per month, with an unlimited accrual

HOLIDAYS – 10 Days Annually + 2 floating Holidays

DEFERRED COMPENSATION
Income may be deferred on a pre-tax and/or post-tax basis through Nationwide based on IRS Regulations

Long term & short-term disability pay. City-paid benefit.  Benefits equal 60% of employee’s base salary for qualified periods

The City provides a life insurance policy of 1x the employee’s annual salary for a maximum of $200,000

Promotional opportunities for all officers include full time assignments as a Field Training Officer, Detective, L.A. IMPACT task force member, Community Policing Officer, Motor Officer, Special Enforcement Team Officer, School Resource Officer, and other part-time duties including S.W.A.T., bicycle patrol, mental health team, and more.

Intermediate – $350/month
Advanced – $750/month
Supervisory – $850/month

Eligible and qualifying employees shall receive a bilingual stipend of $125/month.  

Tuition reimbursement is available upon completion of probationary period.  Additionally, completion of a degree entitles employee to an annual bonus:

AA: $225 / year
BA: $375 / year
MA: $525 / year
Ph.D.: $675 / year

POLICE OFFICER LATERAL

The City of Monrovia is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as a Police Officer (Lateral) in our Police Department. This position will offer a great deal of opportunity as well as challenges.  The ideal candidate is one who has equal respect for the community and his / her professional growth.

After an abbreviated hiring process, Lateral Police Officers will begin immediately in a shortened field training program, followed by a full time assignment with duties to include patrolling an assigned area during an assigned shift and looking for indicators of possible criminal activity or threats to life and property, conducting investigations, interviewing victims and contacting suspects, educating the community on crime prevention, and learning the community policing philosophies that have created a strong and enduring partnership with our citizens.

POLICE CADET

The City of Monrovia wants exceptional young persons to serve as a Police Cadet in our Police Department. This position will offer a great deal of opportunities as well as challenges.  The ideal candidate is one who has equal respect for the community and his / her professional growth. Police Cadets responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities related to safety, customer service and internal operations including, but not limited to participating in training programs that introduce the fundamentals of law enforcement and preparing for a career in law enforcement; preparing and processing a variety of reports, forms, citations, and applications; assisting with the Detective Bureau, enforcing parking requirements, and patrolling special events as needed; assisting with the transportation and tracking of evidence; and answering inquiries from the public and staff, both in person and over the phone.

$23.14 – $31.01 hourly

Hourly employees who work for 12 consecutive months in active status will be eligible to accrue 0.5 hours for every thirty (30) hours worked for a maximum of 24 hours.

Hourly employees will accrue one (1) hour for every (30) hours worked for a maximum of 48 hours

As a part of the City’s commitment to work-life balance, the City provides a fully-paid membership to each employee to the YMCA.

Hourly employees are enrolled in the Public Agency Retirement System (PARS) of the State of California.  The City pays 3.75% and the employee pays 3.75% of contributions to equal 7.5%. The City does not participate in Social Security.
